Full Moon – Snow Moon
The effects of this moon will be felt until the moon has reached its next new moon stage.
February’s full Moon is traditionally called the Full Snow Moon because usually the heaviest snows fall in February. Hunting becomes very difficult, and so some Native American tribes called this the Hunger Moon.
Other Native American tribes called this Moon the “Shoulder to Shoulder Around the Fire Moon” (Wishram Native Americans), the “No Snow in the Trails Moon” (Zuni Native Americans), and the “Bone Moon” (Cherokee Native Americans). The Bone Moon meant that there was so little food that people gnawed on bones and ate bone marrow soup.
So what energy is this particular Snow Moon bringing according to regular astrology? Well let’s take a look.
It is a moon of questioning and learning, it is young and alive, always alert, curious, flexible and open to new experiences. It brings childlike enthusiasm for anything new and learning will come easily, but with it boredom can always be lurking around the corner. Be careful about having too many irons in the fire as keeping track of them all will become increasingly difficult. You be drawn to seek out changes, mental stimulation, and a more active social life.
Some energy will be centered on you becoming more articulate, clever, funny or witty. Extroverts will enjoy meeting and interacting with a variety of different people. No matter how badly you may be feeling, outwardly you may never appear heavy or somber. People may lend themselves to responding to life mentally and objectively rather than emotionally. Furthermore, if you cannot UNDERSTAND something reasonably and logically, then you may find yourself preferring to ignore it, including your own and other people’s irrational feelings, desires, and needs.
But this moon is also very gentle, impressionable, and receptive – a dreamer. It awakens the world of imagination, feelings, and intuition. You may have experiences that are unusual and unexplainable by the rational mind. You may have an abundance of dreams, visions, and longings, but not always have the concentrated will and stamina to make them concrete. For the empaths out there, every emotion will feel as if its strings are being plucked simultaneously. Grounding and centering will be key over the next few weeks. Schedule down time alone and with loved ones.
