Full Moon for July 9, 2017

Published on July 8, 2017 under Shamanic Writings
For many American Indian tribes July's Full Moon is commonly known as the Full Buck Moon because it's the time of year the Buck Deer start to grow their new antlers. This month’s moon is also known as the Thunder Moon because of the large thunder head clouds that form on the American plains in this summer month. With Pisces rising, the basic emotions are that of a gentle, sensitive person with a deep understanding of people. The emotional attitude is one of tolerance, acceptance, and being nonjudgmental. There will be an intense desire to avoid noisy and competitive atmospheres, wanting to leave any thought of conflict behind. Be careful, for a tendency to be unaggressive or unforceful as a person may hinder any steps at bettering yourself that you might be undertaking. The noisy, competitive atmosphere we are often receding and withdrawing from may be overly aggressive over the next few weeks, thanks to our Moon being in Capricorn. We can be passive, wait, watch, observe, and feel our way around the chaos, and with the knowledge gained, we will be on better footing when all the excitement and chaos is over, putting us ahead of the pack. Our desires for the deeply religious and our spiritual feeling about life will be running high. Not in the orthodox sense necessarily, but an intuitive sense of the immensity and underlying oneness of all life, which makes so many human aspirations and striving seem rather unimportant. Seek peaceful surroundings in order to flourish, and periods of quiet solitude will be essential for emotional balance and well-being. With our Sun in Cancer, our powerful emotional attachments to the past, our family, our childhood, and those places we associate with safety and security and our beginnings will be front and center and may…

Let’s Talk the Summer Solstice – 2017 Edition

Published on June 19, 2017 under Shamanic Writings
"Turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you." -- Maori proverb We have finally arrived at the mid-point of the year and the summer solstice. Solstice is a joyous celebration where people stay up all night in order to greet the rising sun. At Summer Solstice, the Sun and Earth align in such a way as to assist all growing things to come into their fullness. Thus, the Summer Solstice ceremonies are often full of dancing, singing, costumes and theatrical performances, feasting. It is a time when Earth and all her inhabitants join in mutual celebration and ecstasy. A time of rejoicing for the blessings bestowed from the marriage of Heaven and Earth. Midsummer is also sometimes referred to by some pagans as Litha. Bonfires were lit to protect against evil spirits which were believed to roam freely when the sun was turning southward again. Generally speaking, shamanic Summer Solstice Ceremonies focus on the themes of fulfillment, enlightenment, abundance, sharing, and the joy of living on this beautiful home. The Sun's warmth provides the heat necessary for all living beings to prosper. The solstice represents high-spirited, enthusiastic, and exuberant energy that will promote a love of adventure, change, and exploring new territory. You won’t be satisfied to be confined to the same safe, familiar, secure little world all the time. It will stir up your restlessness and yearning for something greater than anything you've yet experienced. Your dreams and visions for the future will be stronger than ever. The possibility of discovering something new will propel your curiosities in whatever realm you choose to play in. You will feel the desire to break free of any earthly bonds that keep you from pursuing your higher self’s ambitions and goals. You want your wings to soar. Visions…

June 19th 2017 – How to Make War Water

Published on June 19, 2017 under Shamanic Writings
While the medicinal purposes of old folk healers are no longer adhered to, War Water is still a very important tincture. War Water is used to gain protection. It is an extremely aggressive, forceful spiritual cleanser. It can be used to reverse a curse and send it back to where it came from. It can also be used to cast a curse and as a weapon in what some call psychic warfare or attacks. To make war water you will need: • A Mason Jar • Cut Iron Nails • Rainwater Place the nails in the mason jar and use enough rainwater to cover the nails completely. Leave this until rust begins form. Keep the jar closed except to open once a day to encourage oxidation. As the rusting process begins you can add more water as needed. Keep the jar in a refrigerator or other cool place. Strain water as needed prior to use.

May 15th, 2017 – Magic Box Spells

Published on May 15, 2017 under Shamanic Writings
Magic boxes are especially auspicious for luck spells. Because charms are stored together in these boxes, and especially if the box has power too, their power is concentrated and symbiotically enhanced. Once you create the box, it isn’t meant to simply stay stored on a shelf or in another place. Take out the box periodically and play with the charms inside. Absorb their power while imbuing them with your desire. Swap out the charms you carry with other charms in the box. Always maintain 7 charms in the box at all times. Suggestions to fill the box with: • High John the Conqueror • Low John the Conqueror • Small magnetic horseshoe • Shamrock or 4 leaf clover • Lodestone • Fool’s Gold • Real Gold • Tonka Bean • Lucky Hand Root • Galangal Root • Vanilla Bean • Black Snake Root • Galangal Root • Vetiver • Archangel Root • Mandrake • Ginseng

Full Moon Reading for May 2017

Published on May 8, 2017 under Shamanic Writings
May’s Full Moon is known as the Flower Moon. Depending on the tribe, May’s Full Moon was also called the Mother’s Moon, Milk Moon, and Corn Planting Moon. The May Moon marked a time of increasing fertility, with temperatures warm enough for safely bearing young, a near end to late frosts, and plants in bloom. With that mentioned, there is nothing flower like with our Moon, there is fertile growth. With our Moon in Scorpio, there will still be the strong urge for secrecy, silence and self-brooding. We may find the urge hide our true selves from those who are trying to get to know us on a deeper level. We are not necessarily going to feel like sharing our inner most secrets at this time. Don’t even think about it. We will have a strong desire to seek out control over anything we have the ability to do so, especially relationships. During this moon we will want to be in the driver’s seat of our personal world and life. We don’t get to be in the driver’s seat but we do get to ride the surf board atop this energetic wave of change. Surf’s Up! We will all find our romantic interests set afire! Passion and sex, deep love, brooding, and longing will be just some of the energies flowing through our bodies during the next several days. If you are not already attached, be very cautious about who you might attach yourself to. We must be vigilant against holding grudges or jealousness towards others because other energies playing with the Moon are about promoting changes! This is not the time to hold onto past hurts, resentments or guilt. We must use this energy to release these growth inhibiting, soul draining, and life smothering energies and learn to express…

April 4th, 2017 – Banishing Nightmares & Spiritual Dangers During Sleep

Published on April 24, 2017 under Shamanic Writings
Some people tend to perceive the dream-state’ hallucinatory fluidity as an opportunity to further one’s magical practices while others perceive it with fear and trepidation due to darker themed dreams being prevalent during their time of rest. That sense of exposure and vulnerability is no illusion. Many thing happen when we sleep. Your consciousness is surrendered to your subconscious and many of your defenses along with it. What many do not realize is that we are not only vulnerable to malevolent spirits during the day, we can also be more so at night. While these don’t seemingly go hand in hand, it is often outside darker spiritual forces that can influence and turn our sleep in to less than restful, especially if you are prone to astral projection or dream walking. If you are a fledgling practitioner, some of these simple precautions will allow you to achieve the rest you need while you grow your skills. For others, they are simply a way to ensure you get that longed for peaceful night’s sleep. So here are a few methods to help you with sleeping more soundly and deeply. Dream Powder: Mimosa Magic This is designed to banish bad dreams, stimulate good dreams and to encourage those dreams to come true. 1) Grind up rose petals, lilac petals and acacia gum in a mortar and pestle 2) Blend this with cornstarch 3) Add a few drops of essential oils of mimosa and bay lauarel. (If you like a sweeter, more floral aroma, you can also add a few drops of rose attar.) 4) Sprinkle the mixture between your sheets, or around the bed. Dream Pillow A dream pillow is basically a sachet filled with herbs and botanicals. These botanicals will aid you by not disturbing your sleep, but also providing a…

Full Moon Reading for April 2017

Published on April 12, 2017 under Shamanic Writings
April’s Full Moon, the Full Pink Moon, heralds the appearance of the moss pink, or wild ground phlox—one of the first spring flowers. It is also known as the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and the Fish Moon. So what does our full moon have in store for us? The desire for harmonious relationships and surroundings is so strong that you may want to avoid personal confrontations or any expression of intense, unpleasant emotions. Your need to be an idealist may have you wanting to paint the world in pastel colors, and live in peace and harmony with others at all times. Your ability to see the points of similarity and unity with people who are vastly different from yourself will be one of your greatest strengths over the coming days. Be careful about giving into your tendency to be indecisive as this will put you much more at odds with yourself. You will want to seek out the company of people who, like yourself, are creative, humorous, inventive, or even slightly eccentric. Be very wary of organizations or groups that are too conservative, stuffy, or unresponsive to new ways of thinking and new ways of doing things. Hard work and entrepreneurship will still pay off despite the opposition of Mercury Retrograde (till May 4th). While progress will be made, it will simply be at a slower pace that you might be accustomed to. Your ability to be a good administrator will greatly pay off. If being in an administrative role isn’t your style, now is an excellent time to start learning how to become one while the pace is forced to be slower. Keep yourself occupied with shorter tasks intermingled with larger projects. The tendency to become bored will make your efforts seem unending. Work on thinking out…

April 4th, 2017 – Mojo/Charm Bag

Published on April 3, 2017 under Shamanic Writings
Sometimes you need to carry a piece of magic with you everywhere you go. You’ve seen pictures of Shamans and other practitioners with a pouch around their neck. While those pouches don’t necessarily contain a singular spell like most mojo bags do, they do contain magical components and have a very specific purpose and serve the practitioner in that way. Other names for these bags are medicine hand, mojo hand, dilly bag, amulet bag, magic bag, phylacteries and more. Mojo bags can be designed to do any number of things. These bags are filled with one or more power items depending on what you want to invoke. Over time, the bags themselves absorb all the various energies from what has been placed inside making the container become charged with energy and it becomes a magical item on its own. Traditionally most mojo bags were made from red flannel. Mine is made from blue suede. You can also make a sachet that is entirely sewn shut and can be placed in drawers, office cubicles, sewn in a regularly worn jacket, or the glove box of your car. Obviously the possibilities are endless. Your components are going to vary depending on your intent. If you need a bag to bring in money, you will need to research and choose items associated with that. Let’s say you wanted to create a general mojo bag for protection because you may live or work in a rougher part of town. Components you could use are: Acacia Bark or Thorns, Aloe Vera leaves, Bay Laurel, Betony, Black Cohosh, Black Tourmaline, blue crystal, colored sea glass, dried blueberry leaves, Hematite, Hyssop, Lodestone, Lavender, Patchouli, Rue, Rosemary, Rowan, Heather, red ribbon (great for tying the bag), small bell. One excellent combination is known as the Nine Botanical Guardian…

March 27th, 2017 – So You Want to Build an Altar – Part 5

Published on March 27, 2017 under Shamanic Writings
Working Knife A knife you use to cut things, draw lines in the Earth or runes on candles, and other functions. Traditionally the working knife is white-handled. This knife usually distinguished from the Athame which is a symbolic knife only and not used for other purposes by most practitioners. Not all practitioners count the working knife as one of their altar tools, but just a functional implement. Sword Some people like to use a sword for casting in groups. Often awkward around an altar, swords may be kept near or under it to be held in the magical aura. Because of its ties to war or hostility many practitioners shy away from its use. It is however an excellent tool for shielding and guarding the sacred space. Other useful or practical tools: Not all tools you will want are necessarily magical in nature. Candle Holders: While we talk about candles, we often forget to talk about candle holders. There are a variety of holders out there. Some are designed to hold the small spell candles and others larger ones. You will want a variety of candle holders for your use. Some may have imagery on them some may be plain. Cutting Board: While this may not seem like something you would use at an altar, there will be many times where you will need to cut herbs for a spell, bread for an offering, or even carve a candle. You will not want to cut directly on your altar or altar cloth especially if it is decorative or delicate in nature. Candle Extinguisher: It was taught to me ages ago it is bad practice to blow out the flame of a candle used in ritual. It is considered ‘rude’ to the fire sign. A small extinguisher also keeps you from…
